How to Pick a Career

Deciding what career to choose was a tough task for me. It took a lot of sleepless nights, stressful days, and another failed career, to finally help me decide that I wanted to be a writer. It was not easy, and I completely understand the dilemma most of you are facing. It is with these experiences that I realized I can help many others like me to decide how to pick a career, and help rid them of the uncertainty that plagues them. Before we begin, I'd like to tell you all, that career planning is important for everyone, but it is not irreversible. Sometimes you just have to learn from your mistakes, like I did.

How to Pick a Career Path

Here are a few tips that will help you decide how to pick a career that's right for you.

Identify Your Skills, Abilities and Interests
Before you decide what career is right for you, determine which career you are right for. For instance, if you are a creative person, you are not going to be able to carry out a regular 9-5 office job. However, if you are creative, you also ought to pay attention to the smallest of details. Thus, it is important that you identify your interests in different fields. With interest, come your skills and abilities. Having an interest in music or singing is not enough if your abilities as a singer are not good. Not everyone has inborn skills, but in certain cases, they do have enough that can be honed to achieve perfection. Understand where you stand in the scheme of things before you take the plunge.

Write down everything you are interested in. Then prioritize these interests as per your preference. Write down the level of your capacities in each field. If you are unsure of your skills, speak to a career counselor, opt for some online aptitude tests, that will help you assess your abilities and skills. Then shortlist further. This way you will be able to reduce the list to a few options you can pick from.

Identify the Career Requirements
Being interested or talented at something is not enough to determine if you can meet the demands of the job. For instance, before starting out as a writer I used to be an interior designer. When I took up interior designing, I thought it was all about picking the right colors and accessories for the house. However, it was when I actually started working, that I learned, that color was one of the last choices one made when designing interiors. It was all about dealing with clients' demands, ensuring materials were supplied at the right time, ensuring the labor was available to carry out the work, keeping an eye open for every nitty gritty that went into designing a house, and among all this, meeting deadlines! I soon realized I was not cut out for this profession, for no one would allow me to have the privilege of just designing, while they went through the trouble of executing the project. The bottom line is, I got enticed by the glamor of the profession, without researching what the job really demanded. So before you make such a mistake, speak to a few people who are already in the field, do your research online, and then take your decision.

Get an Internship
Now that you have identified the career you wish to pursue, take up an internship in the field before you pursue the career full time. This will give you an exposure to the field, and enable you to meet people belonging to the same career. As such, an internship will provide a window into the bigger picture, and help you identify all the little things that go into getting the job done. Also, in case you find you are not interested in the field, you can quit at that level instead of plunging in and finding yourself stuck in there. A lot of people feel guilty about opting for a career change, and therefore, an internship is a better way to understand whether you actually belong to a particular career or not.

Once you have understood and executed all these steps, you will have to set your career goals to flourish in the field and expand your horizons. For this purpose you can read more on setting career goals.

With the variety of career opportunities that are now present in the job market, taking a decision about how to pick a career field can be very overwhelming. However, you can get the pressure off yourself by following the above mentioned tips. Also remember, that it is alright to make mistakes. Several people realize much later in life that they are not suited to a particular career. It is absolutely normal to feel that way. In fact, diversity in career choices, or pursuing related career fields adds more variety to your resume, and strengthens your skill base, and is actually appreciated to a certain extent in today's times. However, just remember not to become a 'Jack of all trades, and master of none'!

The Five Proven Ways to Combine Job and Studies

On any course there is always at least one student who manages to succeed with studies, while others are doomed to fail. My friend Sally was like that. With an agenda of tasks to accomplish at work and a younger brother to look after, she always had good marks at university and even got her First-Class Degree with no troubles at all!

After my astonishment was dispelled, I started wondering how it came that Sally could successfully combine her job, studies and private life. And since I was about to start my own career being yet a university student, I kept a close eye on my friend trying to figure out her success formula. Step by step, I learned her tricks and adopted her studying methods, which were a good start in life.

1. Understand What You Need to Succeed at

The first thing Sally taught me is that getting a degree is not just about learning biology, history, English or whatever. It is all about understanding what you want to succeed – what, in fact, the university wants from you and what you will get in return.

Thus, Sally explained me that if you want to save plenty of time for the things you care about rather than doing unnecessary paper work for the university, you need to have a feel for the education market and sell your inspirations. Consequently, it is important to understand what the lecturer wants from you or what the essay marketer is searching for.

In this respect, Sally saw all lecturers as customers that fall in two broad categories. The first category includes teachers who consider lecturing as an unwelcome interruption to their research work. With them, Sally simply pitched her essays so that her opinions appeared more as evidence that she had read and understood the key contributions to the debate, rather as an attempt to pull down the monuments.

However, it was completely different with other teachers, i.e. the second category of teachers who enjoy teaching and discussing new ideas. To make a favourable impression on them, Sally would present her arguments to show that she had done her reading and understood the key concepts. Moreover, she would try to add something more to the issue rather than rake over familiar ground.

Pretty soon I understood that studying is all about working out what is wanted and then delivering it. This tactic never let me down!

2. Delegate Some Job to Others

Sally was a master of shortcuts. "Why should I bother myself with dull research paper topic I’m not interested in when someone else can do 200 times better than me and for me?" That’s what she told me two days before the research paper deadline, when everyone was suffering over their research papers and Sally wasn’t even bothered to have a look at it. The very same day Sally ordered her research paper at one of online custom writing services, received it a day later, skim read it, handed it in and got the desired "pass." I couldn’t believe it!

Surely, in the course of time I understood how unwise it is to spend so much time on a single research paper just for a tick in a register. Ever since then ordering my university papers became a usual practice for my university years. I simply ordered a research in one of the respectable and proven custom writing services and spared myself of boring and time-consuming research.

With custom writing services, I learned to get both: free time and professionally written, plagiarism-free papers that were tailored to my specific needs.

3. Seek Shortcuts

In all university years there was always a long list of humble books that were to be read. Surely, every book on the reading list was out on long loan from the university library within 5 seconds of the list being issued with no way of getting it. Sally found the way out even here.

Collections of selected readings or journal articles could work miracles; for they are excellent sources that often save the bother of reading the original texts. To get the gist of a novel, we would flick through the book, read the introduction, note any summaries, look at diagrams, skim the index and read any conclusions. This way we plucked out what was needed and made our escape.

4. Condense Your Knowledge

So as Sally’s hectic lifestyle didn’t slow down even during an examination session, she worked out the proven way to pass any exam with flying colours even when you don’t have much time on your hands.

First, Sally was revising by discarding subject areas she could not face revising. The option was to compile notes and then condense them onto one or two sheets for each subject area, so that to concentrate on them before the exam. Thus, leading up to the exam, she would concentrate on the condensed notes and rely on the memory to drag out the details behind them when the time came.

Second, no matter how serious and difficult the exam was, Sally never practised writing exams questions, although it was recommended by the teachers. She always stressed the importance of being spontaneous and open-minded. Although, it all seemed a little bit crazy, I tried it once, twice, then one more time, and once again … and to the end of my studies at university.

5. Let Your Hair Down

No matter how difficult it was Sally would never miss a party, or some other do. She would always hangout with her friends and share regular shop tours. Her studies or job would never outweigh a date with her boyfriend. Sally would never miss a training session in a gym.

In other words, Sally knew how to relax, let her hair down and get filled with energy, positive thinking and never-ending optimism that would drive her further on.

To cut a long story short, my friend Sally is the example number one of how to strike the right balance between working, studying and enjoying yourself. Simply, be a happy student, take what you do seriously and do your best. And, no matter what you do, don’t forget to appreciate every day of your university studies, for it is one of the greatest periods of your life.

Career Choice

In an era gone by, there were a few options of earning good name and decent money. Namely, slogging day in and day out (which necessarily entailed learning by heart, stuff, which you would forget after a month into the real world) to make a foray into the world of either medicines or engineering.

The entire scenario has undergone a drastic change within a decade. Now, you can specialize and earn handsome money by being a nutritionist (essentially entails ensuring good eating habits!) to a marriagist (one who necessarily helps you make a tough decision and the process, thereafter, hassle free).

Hence, in today’s world, it’s no more a memory test that would lead you to success. For survival one trait that is of utmost important is: ‘street smartness’. …..and the new kids on the block, the generation Next.. .is adept at adapting himself (apologies to the fairer sex!) to the changed environment.

Though the huge career options have helped a lot of people in finding a career as per their tastes yet it’s this process of………. searching, that has created havoc in the lives of the youth.

‘Agreed our parents had limited options but their lives were much more simpler than ours. Right now I don’t even know what I want so how can I take a decision?’ says a confused student Vinay, who is at the crossroads of his career.

This mental state of mind and the dilemmas are not unique. Almost every student has to face this decision-taking phase. He doesn’t know what he wants because he doesn’t know what does it involve. Hence, how can you base your future on a flimsy gut feeling?

Yet, there are a lucky few, who know what they want and have the courage to follow their dreams. ‘I knew that I can’t take up a 9 to 5 kind of boring job. It was just not my type. Hence, along with my college I finished my interior designing course and now am earning decently through freelancing. My parents were against the investment of 20-25 K on a course. But, I am glad I took a stand and finished my course.’ Says an apparently happy and satiated Sunita Jain.

Does this dream realization always come at the cost of a rebellion? Not necessarily. Agreed the lives of the parents were much more easier when they were their kids age but the concern over their kids career is no less traumatizing.

‘My father is very supportive. He has never forced his opinions on me but has helped me a lot at each step…and though we disagree on a lot of issues but in the end I do trust his decisions.’ Says a college student pursuing his computer course and preparing for his MBA as well.

Though not everyone is all that lucky. Amidst searching for a lucrative, satisfying and fulfilling career the generation next has to also convince their seniors about their choice. Most of the parents are unwilling to accept that bridal packing, wherein you pack gifts innovatively and creatively, can also develop into a career.

Left with no other choice, but a rebellion, these already, confused and traumatized youth is bereft of the one emotional anchor that it desperately needs.

Hence, it seems, they are paying a price for their decision to choose.

Accounting Careers

Accounting is basically the study of how different businesses keep track of their assets and income over a certain period of time. There are many things to learn from pursuing a career in accounting. One of the main lessons is to learn how different businesses work. Accounting is the language of every business. It is the system that transforms different types of information into reports, quantifies all business activities, and communicates the results to the top-level management.

Accounting careers could be just about the right thing to bring to you that much needed satisfaction and that much needed sense of accomplishment into your life. Along with medicine and other similar health related careers, accounting professionals belong to the elite group of professions that are expected to see enormous growth in the next couple of years.

Today, graduates from any one of those established four year accounting programs are now earning almost 4% more in terms of starting pay, especially those who are straight out of college.

In addition, there are many top-notch degree programs for accounting and that are only for 2 years. However, your choice will eventually depend on a number of factors like career objectives, the amount of money that needs to be invested in your education, whether you can or not attain a student loan, what is your schedule like, and so and so forth.

If you are looking for the right kind of accounting education so as to build and manage your own small business or non-profit organization, then it would be better for you to take classes from your local community college or any other type of learning center.

In most of the larger towns and cities, there are plenty of learning centers that offer a wide range of classes, right from home improvement to cooking to even accounting. Ask around at the local library or at the community college and find out what the learning opportunities and career opportunities are.

If you are planning on studying accounting more seriously so as to manage your businesses or organizations finances, then you’ll probably need to find a community college that has the right combination of classes, the perfect combination that you are looking for.

If you want to further pursue a career in accounting, then a community college is still one of the best places to go to. If you are forced to work while attending classes, or if you have children, then these community colleges are probably only options you have, as they offer flexibility when it comes to scheduling.

If you need more information on all things pertaining to accounting, and if you want to know what the expected outlook of those already in the field are, then the governments Occupational Outlook Handbook is the best place to look at and can be found at the U.S Department of Labor website. This site is loaded with information, which can guide you into making the right decision on how different accounting degrees and professions are likely to turn out in the next few years.

Some Accounting Careers
Here are just a few career options in accounting:

* Public Practice – It is a very good idea to start your accounting career as a public accountant. Public accountants work in partnerships and offer their accounting skills and services to governments, businesses and even individuals. However, you must be a certified public accountant in order to practice as an individual or as a member in a public accounting firm. A public accountant’s roles and responsibilities include: taxation, auditing and management advisory services. Public accounting provides many excellent opportunities to achieve business success, and these are all multifaceted.
* Education – Accountants are also hired as professors, researchers or even reviewers. Such accountants ensure that there is constant development in the professions. They make efforts by clearing out and facing emerging problems and issues by first researching and then distributing the end results to all and sundry.
* Commerce and Industry – Any organization, whether large or small, has an elite accounting group. This accounting group will organize and prepare the financial statements, keep track of all the costs, take care of any tax issue and will work on all the international transactions. In such companies, over a period of time, a person may be hired as a vice president for the finance department of the company. Other designations include: cost accountants, chief accountants, budget officer or internal auditor. The scope and responsibilities of the field of accounting vary greatly depending on the level of the position and size of the company.
* Government Service – Accountants working for government services work either at the state level or at the federal level. Government accountants put together and manage the budgets, analyze programs and keep track of government costs.

So, these are a few myriad opportunities in the field of accounting. But it is important to keep in mind that success does not always go hand in hand with accounting. If you are determined to be successful, you have to work twice as hard to achieve it.

15 Januari, gerhana matahari cincin terlama

26 Juni, gerhana bulan parsial

11 Juli, Gerhana matahari total

Awal Agustus, Trio Planet

12 Agustus, Hujan Meteor Perseid

Akhir Oktober, Bumi dilintasi Komet

14 Desember, Hujan meteor Gemini

Hujan meteor gemini kembali terjadi.

20-21 Desember, Gerhana Bulan Total
