I have seen once happy marriages breaking up after one of the spouses is affected by a job loss. It is even worse when the woman is the breadwinner. Most men will virtually take to evil vices like drunkenness, smoking and other health-damaging pastimes.

If you are a woman and your husband is out of job, you must quickly adjust and play the perfect role of the virtuous woman in Proverb 31. Take the time to read Proverbs 31 and learn how to behave at all times.

It is a fact that some women take to prostitution or gambling to be able to eke out a living to support the home. What do you expect from a husband who finds out your new way of life? Lack of respect and divorce will follow.

You can save your marriage after a job loss by being supportive, understanding and caring. Once you are able to support your spouse during the period of a crisis, you will be able to save your marriage. Your husband may become emotionally attached to the other woman that takes advantage of his job loss to provide some extra cash to him just to be able to gratify her sexual desires. Your wife may begin to have secret affairs with the man that pretends to love her once she can give sex for money. This is the time you must develop thick skin to resist all forms of temptation.

Sound communication will help you save your marriage after a job loss. Do not hide your feelings from your spouse. Do not become moody and refuse to talk to your spouse. Job Search Tip for Women: Break the Glass Ceiling!

OK. The stats for 2005 are in.

1. Women make up about half the American work force.

2. Women hold about half the managerial positions.

3. Women earn just 73 percent of what men earn in the same jobs.

4. Women hold only 5 percent of the country's top-paying jobs.

5. Just eight of the Fortune 500 companies have women CEO's.

The secret to changing this situation is learning to communicate more effectively.

Molly Dickinson Shepard just wrote a book called "Stop Whining and Start Winning." She contends that women, who are said to come from Venus, need to learn the language of their Mars-based male counterparts.

"They must get in the game," she advises. "Otherwise they won't rise any further--and the statistics won't change. If women communicate more effectively, they will be heard.

"If a woman is not heard, she's going to be seen as passive and be marginalized," Shepard explains. It's critical that women feel recognized and valued."

Men get more than their share of money and power in the American workplace. But it doesn't have to be that way especially if you've made the decision to change careers or search for a new job. Learning to speak assertively to your next employer can position you for career growth that can challenge the glass ceiling.

Fortunately there are tons of FREE job search strategies and techniques that can put you way ahead of the competition and level the playing field with male counterparts.

Shepard points out that men really believe it when they say, "It's just business, it's not personal." They rip into each other during meetings and then go out for beers together. It's to women's advantage to be just as thick-skinned, Shepard concludes.

Be sure to check out communication techniques presented by EEI at their website. Their 20 years of experience as experts in alternative job search strategies can make the difference for any woman job candidate who wants to break through the glass ceiling.

Jobs Working From Home Can Really Help Out Pregnant Women

Finding out that you are expecting a baby can be a very exciting time. There is planning to do and baby items to buy. However, in the midst of all this preparation, there is still the reality of responsibilities and bills. Being pregnant isn't always conducive to holding down a regular job. This is the perfect time to look into jobs working from home. As technology has advanced, many companies have discovered the advantages of subcontracting with at-home workers. In addition, entire new industries have sprung up, with opportunities for making money attached. There is no reason that you can't enjoy your pregnancy, and still make a decent income working from home.

The first thing you need to determine is what you need from jobs working from home. If you have never been pregnant before, you may be unsure of how you will deal with the situation. If you know that you experience severe morning sickness, for example, you will be looking at different jobs than if you make it through those early months with little incident. Some jobs working from home require that you keep a consistent schedule. While you do have some advantages to not having to travel, you will still have much of the restrictions that accompany a regular nine-to-five job. These positions are usually in customer service and involved taking or making phone calls. For pregnant women, they aren't really the most ideal choice.

There are two types of jobs that offer the most flexibility for a pregnant woman. First, writers are needed to contribute online content to various sites on the Internet. Almost all of these jobs working from home allow you to set your own hours, and work at your own pace. However, in order to make a consistent income, you will need to dedicate several hours every day to keep up. With writing, you are paid on a piece-rate basis, and most companies do not offer residual income to their staff.

Residual income is where you perform a task once, and continue to get paid for that work. For a pregnant woman, jobs working from home that use a residual income model are the best option. The easiest and most lucrative residual income jobs are in affiliate marketing. Because of the amount of traffic that is on the Internet, companies are willing to pay for leads and ads that promote their product. They often don't, however, really have the time to perform these simple tasks themselves. Instead, they work with a network of partners whose main job is to promote their product or service. Affiliate marketing is an easy work at home job, has flexible hours, and continues to pay for the same work. This is one of the most ideal jobs working from home for a pregnant woman. You can work when you are feeling well, and still have the income stream during your down days.

Being a working mother is hard enough; being a working pregnant mother can be extremely difficult. As you never know what your day will be like, and how you will feel, you need jobs working from home that have the maximum earning potential, while still allowing for flexibility. Residual income positions, such as affiliate marketing, are probably the most useful jobs for the pregnant woman. Be sure that you understand the program that you are using for the best results.

Office Toys - Fun Office Gifts For Employee Motivation, Rewards and Recognition

Motivating and retaining your best employees is often best achieved through the use of an employee recognition program with rewards that can include gifts such fun office toys and desk decor to "lighten their load" during the day and show them that you care. Your employees work hard - and while recognizing their efforts with a plaque or other award is a thoughtful gesture, why not consider a fun gift that expresses your humorous side (and that will always be well-received)?

Saying "You're Appreciated" in a Cool Way

Gone are the days of gift certificates for the Jelly of the Month Club. Today's brightest and most talented employees are looking for something more unique. Other than cold hard cash, these fun and innovative employee gifts will be sure to get you voted Best Boss in no time. Consider this type of gift as an investment in keeping your best employees happy; happy employees are hard-working employees.

The Best Employee Rewards

One of the best companies around has an innovative way to keep their employees "positive". When a supervisor hears a positive statement, the employee chooses a gift from the positive "vibes" box. Positivity rubs off, and so does being negative. In fact, employees who are constantly negative can actually spread negativity around just like a virus. Having small rewards for positive thinking and positive actions helps to keep everyone motivated and happy. Motivate your employees without cracking the whip (and encourage positive actions) with these fun and enjoyable gift ideas:

o Derringer rubber band gun - perfect for the secretary who likes to play Rambo or for putting stray workers into their rightful "place". Each supervisor should have their own Derringer rubber band gun to enforce the office "rules" with a sense of play.

o Grow a Geek - you've seen Sea Monkeys - now there's Grow a Geek. Simply place this sweet little nerd into water and watch him grow. His Momma would be so proud - and all women love geeks - even if they don't admit it.

o Something Somewhere Went Terribly Wrong Tee - this funny shirt shows what Darwin never expected...show your funny take on evolution with this wacky tee.

o Floating Pendulous Pen Stationary Set & Clock - a pen that floats? This far-out gift set is entertaining, handy, and a great conversation starter.

o Desktop Water Dispenser - a scaled-down water cooler style dispenser. Perfect for keeping up to a half gallon of liquid on tap and ready.

o Desktop Aquarium - with a small desktop footprint, this office aquarium provides hours of distraction. Life-like fish are included - you never have to feed 'em or clean up their "droppings".

o Can of Whoop A$$ - just pop the top and you'll hear the old taunt "you just opened a can of...!" Makes a perfect gag gift.

o Photo Rubik's Cube - just like the 80s toy phenomenon, this cube scrambles six favorite photos for hours of descrambling fun.

o Bernie Madoff's Head - thousands of investors have been demanding it, and now it's here. Bernie Madoff's head - you can even put it on a platter for effect. This stress reliever toy will certainly bring a lot of laughs and provides a unique outlet for general workplace stress.

o Chill Pills - employees stressing too much? Hand out these candy chill pills to get the whole room to relax.

o Bug Out Bob Stress Reliever - squeeze Bob until his brains pop out; don't worry, he's very flexible and you won't hurt him (too bad anyway).

o Notice: Problems Next Office Sign - point them in the right direction, no questions asked with this fun sign that directs all the problems away from you!

Appreciating your employees for their valuable contribution to the company and rewarding them accordingly doesn't have to drain your company's treasure box. You can express your appreciation and motivate them to do more by giving them fun office toys they'll love to have sitting on their desks.

Desk Toys - Plan a Fun Office Party With These Gadgets

If you've been put in charge of your office's next party, chances are you are hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Take your next office party from boring to party central with fun desk toys, fun decor, office games and (best of all) cool prizes that your coworkers will actually want (sorry, no fountain pen prizes this year).

The Enigma of the Office Party

While office parties in theory should be a blast, in reality they can be as much drudgery as a trip to the dentist for a root canal. Throwing your coworkers, supervisors, bosses and "head honchos" into the mix with your spouse, partner, or date, and you usually have (at least) an uncomfortable situation. While most folks feel obliged to attend the annual office party(s), hardly anyone actually wants to. But much like a staff meeting, those who don't go are considered slackers! And while any office party can be stiff and uptight, you can become the person in your office to turn all of that around with a few savvy office party tips and ideas to make your party fun and engaging.

Office Party Planning

Most office parties are catered, so you likely won't be worrying over appetizers, food and drinks. If your party is pretty low budget, you likely won't have a band but you can liven up the party with some awesome party speakers hooked to your portable music device playing the latest hits (or, if you're having a theme party, such as the '60s, you can choose music that was popular in the particular period, or Christmas songs for holiday parties).

Office Party Games

Keeping your guests entertained (and out of the punch) involves some tricky maneuvering and fun office party games. Choose four or more of these popular games (depending on the length of your party):

* Liar, Liar. This game involves guests gathering in a circle and appointing a score keeper. Each guest must state one true thing about themselves and two lies. When they finish, the other guests must vote on which statement is true. Each player is awarded a point for an incorrect answer. The person who ends up with the most points is dubbed "the office's biggest liar" and gets to choose a prize or be awarded a prize.
* The Statue Game. Explain the rules of the game to the guests as they arrive, or make a small handout that details the rules. One person will be chosen to be a "statue" at a particular time during the party that no one else is aware of. As each guest notices the statue, he or she must also become a statue. The last person to notice that everyone is frozen stiff wins a prize.
* Cotton Ball Game. This old-standby is still hilarious no matter which venue its being played in (and especially after your guests have had a few drinks). You'll need two buckets, two chairs, a big bag of cotton balls, a large service spoon, blindfold and a kitchen timer. Place two chairs about 5-6 feet apart, facing the same way. Put a bucket with cotton balls in one chair, an empty bucket in the other. Blindfold the guest and spin him or her around a few times to disorientate them. Give them the serving spoon and "lead" them to the edge of the bucket where the cotton balls are. Set the time for 3 minutes. On your "go" the guest must use the spoon to scoop out as many cotton balls as possible and transfer them to the empty bucket. The guest to transfer the most balls successfully wins. They can only use one hand to work the spoon. Another version of this game has the guest sit in the chair, holding a bucket while blindfolded, and attempt to spoon as many cotton balls as possible on the top of their head. The guest with the most balls on their head at the end of 2 minutes wins.

Fun Party Prizes for Office Parties

There are tons of cool gifts, gadgets, and desk toys that can make a big difference in how memorable your office party is. The following gifts are recent popular choices that your office party guests will appreciate. Consider making a party bag of gifts for everyone who attends.

* Bernie Madoff's head. Yes, we all wanted to see it chopped off, and now you can enjoy tossing Madoff's head around the office or just squeezing it whenever you feel stressed.
* Rubber band gun - start an office war with this fun office toy that everyone will enjoy.
* Grow a Geek - grow your own geek; just add water and watch him expand. Great for gift bags.
* Chill Pills - candy chill pills will help your coworkers just chill out!
* Desktop Water Dispenser - holds up to a half gallon of water - perfect for the desktop and for your office health nut whose striving to get in their recommended 8 glasses per day. Plus, it's better for the environment than all those plastic bottles that have a half-life of 500 years.
* Survival kit in a sardine can - yes you read it right; you get a fish hook and line, compass, first aid supplies, duct tape, matches, whistle, signal mirror and more. Great and thoughtful party favor or to help fill your party goody bag.

You can build more fun into your next office party by making use of fun desk toys as cool game prizes that your office mates and even your boss will surely love to treasure.

Buying Office Furniture Can Be a Minefield - Quality Wins Over Price

There is so much to consider.

Cost, space, quality, warranty and delivery to name but a few. They are all very important in the general assessment procedure, but the most important criteria is often overlooked until it is too late.

There are so many online office furniture companies with tabloid-like websites offering this office chair and that office desk for an amazing price or super quick delivery. It is sometimes very difficult to see the wood for the trees.

Cheapest v Cost Effective
It is very easy to fall into the cheapest is the most cost effective trap. Of course sometimes you can get very good quality office furniture at rock bottom prices, but ordinarily the cheap Chinese imports prove to be less than reliable and the one year guarantee is an air raid siren hint that you ignore at your peril.

The better quality office chairs are offered with 5 year warranties or 2 years for heavy duty 24 hour control room chairs.

Lead times can pre-determine which supplier you opt for but more importantly it can drive the buyer down a precarious office furniture selection route, where availability outweighs all other factors.

You have a new employee starting on Monday and you need an office chair, a desk and a computer.

Think about this for just a moment. Which of those three items will the buyer spend most time over selecting?

Which of the three items will the buyer be given specifically more advice on which model to purchase?

Which item is more important to suit the tasks that the new employee will have to undertake?

Okay, we all know the answer; the computer. But which of the three original items will still be in that office in 5 years time? Now that is an entirely different matter.

We all know that selecting the right computer and software and to give your employee the right tools for the job is paramount for your business plan. A corporate buyer wouldn't bat an eyelid at buying a desktop PC, with software and network installed by a professional IT engineer for around £1000-£1500. Now in most corporate offices, computers are regularly upgraded and/or replaced say every two years as a matter of course. But how many buyers would consider upgrading their office furniture every two years. If the same care and selection thought processes are not applied to buying an office chair and a computer desk - to suit the new employee, then the company could well end up with an office chair that lasts barely a year and an office desk that is unsuitable and the employee can't even get his or her legs under because the drawer pedestal is on the wrong side.

It's that Old Black Magic
The upshot is that the computer is by far the easiest item to buy. The majority of office workers are computer savvy these days and they now know the terminology that was deemed to be almost black magic just ten years ago. It was box with a monitor and mouse, we turned it on and then, there was black magic! There is a multitude of advice on the internet on RAM and graphics cards, monitors and the like. So much so that high street retailers are finding it very difficult to compete against the big online sellers like DELL, because the likes of you and me are feeling ever more confident these days about buying a PC that we personally have specified. So with lower overheads the online computer retailer is winning the battle over its high street adversaries and prices are at their lowest ever. Good news for the consumer then. Well it would be if the build quality wasn't indelibly linked to the price. The fact remains that you get what you pay for. In general the more expensive computers have better build quality and more robust peripherals. Need a laptop to use on a chemical plant? Then a ruggedised model could cost you back upwards of £2000.

Where is all of this leading to you may ask?
Well... Ergonomics my friend. Yes indeed, ergonomics is the new black magic in the office furniture environment. I won't try and explain what ergonomics is here. That is worth one or two articles on its own. Although, here is a very good description of ergonomics if you want to read further. Selecting office furniture is a far more difficult and trap laden task these days. Posture and office seating go hand in hand. Space age technologies developed for car seats are being applied to office chairs and the natural 'S' shape of the spine is being replicated in all manner of ergonomic office chairs. Modern ergonomic office chairs can be manipulated to suit any body shape and size, but that still does not mean that they are overly expensive. One customer said to me recently: "Ergonomic chairs are okay but I've been quoted £1200!" That may be the case. You can pay well over £1000 for an ergonomic office chair - but you don't have to. There are more economically viable options out there, with very good build quality.

What is you priority?
The new employee should be considered first and foremost when specifying new office furniture. Their size and physical capabilities will determine not only the type of office chair you select but also the desk height, the hand of the desk (is the person left handed?) and the height of the monitor. Something which is over looked more often than not is the lighting. Space can often be at a premium in modern office environments and will often dictate the only place a new workstation can be located. Glare from lights can be a major factor in producing headaches and eye strain in computer users.

Ideally you should choose the best office furniture you can afford. This will give you the best long term investment in your employee and office furniture in terms of your budget. And don't forget there are deals to be had out there so don't be afraid to ask for a discount. It is a very competitive market, but be sure you are comparing like for like with regards to quality.

Home Office Furniture Tips For the Perfect Purchasing

Nowadays with the massive increase in technologies, people are getting more and more opportunities to gain employment or for setting up a new business. They can add to their income by working for themselves from home at their own convenient time. Home office furniture plays a great role in converting a section of your home into a pleasing office space.

Converting a home space into an office sounds easy, but in reality it is difficult to establish an official office environment in your home and maintain the privacy that is required to get work done within a given time limit. A perfect home office can be the solution for all your problems. You can prepare your home office with the help of home office furniture. The work environment can help you in determining the type of office furnishings, the space, and the impression that you like to project. And these are just some of the issues that would guide you in finding suitable furniture. Certain points and criteria also need to be considered like the comfort of the furniture, compatibility, quality of material used, durability of the furniture and last but not the least, you must consider your taste and preferences before purchasing them. Therefore, the suggestions below will help you in making the right selection of home office furniture for your dream home-office.

Take measurement of your Office:

Before purchasing home office furniture you must have a floor plan. It is important to have a layout or drawing of the space you wish to furnish. For this you must first of all determine the amount of workspace you need. Then you must carefully inspect the place where you wish to fit your home office furniture. The total dimension of the workspace will be the deciding factor for furnishing. This will provide you with a better idea of style and size of furniture that will fit well in the office. There is no use for furniture that does not compliment your office space. The ideal office furnishings fit perfectly and provides a lot of space to move around. You will observe that there are numerous quality pieces to choose from in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Where to purchase your home office furniture:

You can purchase the furniture from your nearby local furniture supply stores or from online supply stores. The advantage of purchasing furniture from a local store is that you can see the furniture for yourself. Whereas, the only disadvantage of purchasing at a local shop is that it is tiring and time consuming.

On the other hand, if you purchase your furniture from an online furniture store you can purchase the required furniture quickly and easily. The only disadvantage here is that you can only see the images of the furniture, although descriptions and details such as color, size, etc are described there also.

Function and Comfort:

Furniture should be practical and user friendly and must be made up of quality materials. Ensure that the home office furniture which you are planning to purchase is accomodating to your work requirements. You must be well aware of the requirements of the people who will be working along with you in the office you wish to furnish. You must have a rough idea about the drawer space and shelf space. This will be helpful in the total set-up and furnishing. Ensure that the furniture you select will be function well in your office.

Nowadays because of the cut throat competition and deadlines, long working hours have become a necessity. Sitting in the same chair for hours may cause back problems. Comfort of the home office furniture plays a vital role in keeping you fresh and active throughout your working hours and at the same time helps you in increasing the productivity which in turn, increases your income. Comfortable furniture helps you in keeping yourself fit and healthy by providing you a good sitting posture. A good sitting posture helps in reducing the risk of injuries such as slipped disks, sore neck, shoulders and severe back ache. Functioning and comfort of the furniture are priorities when purchasing furniture. So it is very important that the furniture you purchase should be comfortable and practical. Filing cabinets, bookshelves, pencil drawers, and many additional office accessories are available at the supply stores to help keep your office organized.

Identify your Color Scheme:

There is no doubt that the functionality of the furniture is important but at the same time aesthetics are also similarly important. The look and feel of the office must be soothing and comfortable to your eyes. Visual appeal of the furniture is as important as all of the other issues. Visual appeal of the furniture changes the entire look of the office. The furniture should be coordinated nice with the other office decor. You can furnish your office with a range of modern designs, bright to matte colors and modern to vintage styles.

Frequency of usage:

If you use your home office furniture more than is customary, then you must purchase furniture that is of higher quality. If you wish to purchase a desk for minimal use, then you can opt for a less expensive desk. Choose the furniture that gives you an adequate amount of space to work at.

Material of furniture:

The purchase of furniture is not something that is done frequently as it is an expensive exercise. Furniture is purchased and should be expected to last a long period of time. Therefore the material used in manufacturing home furniture should be inspected very carefully. The material of the furniture should be manageable as well as maintainable.

Have a Comfortable Office Chair:

Have you ever heard about ergonomic office furniture? Ergonomic furniture helps you to reduce stress and strain from certain parts of your body. It reduces stress from the body of the user and also gives the required comfort. You spend a lot of time working, so your office chair should feel good, comfortable and should be adjustable.

Consider the Price:

Before purchasing furniture you must plan your budget and then spend accordingly. With a fixed budget, you'll can purchase the required office furnishings and help you stay away from purchasing something on impulse. Ensure that the price of the business furniture is reasonable. Compare the prices and then select the office furnishings. Get a full detail of delivery and installation charges before finishing your purchase.

Last but not the least you must enjoy your search for the ideal furniture pieces. During your search you may find stylish, classy, and simple features in each of the finest home office furniture collections available. While purchasing the furniture just remember that you must never base your purchase on your wants but instead buy only what you need.

ISTJ Careers - 5 Career Change Tips For ISTJs

Are you an ISTJ? Are you wondering what the best ISTJ careers might be for you? Well, I guess if you are reading this, you are already a fan of MBTI - or the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, as I am. As a career change consultant, I have found it to be a great tool when helping career changers work out what direction they should go in next.

So how do you make a connection between your personality type and the careers you could consider? There is no doubt that you will be happiest in a career where you are able to use your preferred style of operating for the majority of the time. So when you are considering new career options, take your type elements into account.

Using your Introversion

Make sure there will be opportunities for you to work in a quiet and focused way and that you will have time to think and reflect on the work you are doing. If you are constantly required to interact with colleagues and clients, thinking on your feet as you go you will probably find that a struggle.

Using your Sensing

You will probably be happier if your work involves handling concrete facts and processes where you can see an immediate practical application. You are great with applying detailed systems and may feel less comfortable if your work demands constantly coming up with new ideas and approaches.

Using your Thinking

You are a clear headed, logical thinker and have great skill in weighing up pros and cons objectively. You will probably prefer a work environment where everyone works to clear principles and standards and will feel less inspired by a setting that has a strong 'people' focus.

Using your Judging

You prefer a planned and orderly approach and you are likely to be methodical and systematic in the way you work. You just want to know what you are meant to be doing so you can get on with it. If a job requires you to constantly chop and change, or if the environment is fairly chaotic and unstructured, it is likely that you will find this draining.

Don't just look for a simple match

You are a wonderfully complex creature and many factors will be important in your career choice, so don't expect a simple one-to-one match where ISTJ = x is the perfect job for you.

Looking at the outlines above, it would be easy to jump to a simplistic conclusion eg that accountancy or law would be good ISTJ careers. Now you will probably find there are more ISTJs in these fields than in areas such as performing arts and advertising, but don't base your career change decision just on your personal style. Make sure that you take account of your skills, interests and values too as well as practical issues such as where you live or are willing to move to.

Career Management 101 - Transition Tips

It's no secret; being a part of the job search process across the nation has been tough for an extended period of time. What some employment seekers may not realize is that successful individuals who find themselves out of work don't dwell on the loss - they transition to a career field where there is growth and opportunity.

Here are the top five tips every candidate can utilize and apply to their personal situation.

1. Look for opportunities that are interesting and that can utilize your previous experience.

The job seeker should assess their "transferable skills," all those jobs done previously, that define all their skill sets. Never consider prospective careers that do not align with an individual's personality. Think of the transition process as a deliberate decision being made for the long-term.

2. Key career transition decisions may take time - avoid becoming hurried.

A candidate may find they come across multiple opportunities that do not fit their parameters. It's okay to walk away from the wrong option. Every job seeker must focus on having a keen understanding of their professional goals, and then implement a strategic plan to attain them. Opportunities will present themselves, but they may not be all the right or best decisions to make. Qualify the opportunities, based on your situation.

3. Have a truthful understanding of professional abilities.

An entry-level candidate can not simply make the short-term goal of moving in to management, without meeting the education and experience requirements. An individual who's been earning $30,000 annually in a particular field cannot expect their next employer to pay them more than the average median salary for that given position. Honesty is always the best policy when making any career transition.

4. Know current skill levels, and determine how they coincide with goals..

Regardless of what field or industry a job seeker plans to enter, one thing is always for certain: Change. It may be necessary to take a class or two at the local college or university. Obtaining particular certifications may be preferred or required by the hiring authority. Certain professionals must meet state licensing requirements to perform their job. Researching requirements for a new career is essential for a successful transition.

5. Image is everything.

Today's job seeker is required to manage not only their personal image, but their on-line identity. Information obtained about an individual through Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, and all of the other social networks creates a "brand" for that individual. When attempting to make a career change or transition, it is critical to create a consistent and professional brand. Remember, both on-line and off-line image must match, or the transition process will not be successful.

The professional world is always changing, and this is a lesson every individual should learn from the recent recession. Candidates must continually upgrade their skills, add value to their career, and keep current on all things within their chosen field and industry.

Home-Based Business Moms Save the Day

Single-income families are becoming more and more impractical. That is why home-based business moms are the growing trend. Leaving the kids and the home to outside help just to go to work is not an option that some would want to pursue, and with the variety of possibilities that are available to today, one can always find a way to compromise.

Why Home-Based Businesses are Booming

1. Technological Advances. Perhaps the biggest factor in making and building a home-based business a plausible alternative to a corporate career is the fact that technology has made it a lot easier to share information from all over the globe. It also has become more convenient to go online to purchase something, or to sign up for a contract of service.
2. Security Measures. Servers, websites and even blogs now have security certifications and protocols that protect the clients and the business establishment themselves - not only from unwanted incursions into their computer systems, but more importantly to protect the transactions, as well. With a lot of virtual businesses relying on the trust that people will give them to deliver, this surge in security troubleshooting is a big deal. They are also very easy to learn that even the most inexperienced home-based business moms can incorporate them into their systems.
3. Software and Applications. There are a lot out there that have been developed and improved with e-commerce specially in mind. There are very good ones that home-based business moms can even get for free, or for a very minimal amount. This is also one of the reasons why doing business at home over the Internet has survived the economic slowdown.

You Will Still Need Help

On the outside, it looks like a plausible idea. You get to spend time at home AND make money while you're at it. But, in the end, you might find yourself spread too thin. There are two ways to go about it that home-based business moms have found to be useful. One would be to find a business partner, and the other would be to find household help.

Outsourcing Tasks

"A one-legged man in a hopping contest" is a description that you would not want to be described as, and if you are just starting out, it really is best to get as much help as you can. Delegating work that you cannot get a handle on does not mean you will give up any measure of control over your business; you will still get to choose to whom and how much to delegate.

There are just things that are more worthy of your attention than others, and many home-based business moms have learned to use the resources available to them to succeed.

Moms Going Back to Work for Financial Security

There has been a ton of discussion lately about stay-at-home moms sacrificing their financial health for the sake of raising their children. Whether you agree or disagree with this statement, there are a lot of moms returning to the workforce to make an extra buck and keep their foot in the corporate world.

However, it doesn't have to be an all or nothing approach. What are some ways to successfully get you back into the working world? Take a look:

Work Part-Time

This can be one of the most appealing work alternatives for moms. You don't have to give up all your freedom and time with your kids while earning a paycheck. That's the misconception that many have while contemplating their next move. Not only does part-time work allow you to get your feet wet once again without diving in head first, you can pick up some new skills and start putting away some money while you're at it.

Work-At-Home (for someone else) & Freelance

There are many ways this can happen. You can become skilled in a trade that hires home-workers such as medical transcriptionists. There are different courses out there to help you get started with such a thing. You can also become a virtual assistant or a freelancer for a business owner. The type of work would vary greatly depending on your strengths and the business owner's needs.

Work-At-Home (for yourself)

Starting a business can be extremely scary and overwhelming but the Internet makes it easier than ever. Now don't get me wrong: you still have to have strong business acumen and be willing to work very hard and constantly keep abreast of new marketing techniques, but you don't need a lot of upfront capital. Domain names are cheap and there's help out there to get started.

But do NOT get caught up in the easy-money scam. These scams prey on amateurs who might not know that it really is too good to be true. Those of us who have online businesses know that it takes time and a lot of hard work to become successful.

Volunteer

Now if you're a mom who doesn't care about earning an extra paycheck right now, then volunteering might be the route for you. It allows you to choose something you enjoy and believe in while honing some important business skills. Yes, volunteer work can easily be transformed into valuable assets that will work for you when and if it comes time to go back to work. It's usually viewed upon very highly with employers.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it's your decision. Some people believe that all women should work outside the home. If not, you risk financial ruin. That is a very dire picture to paint especially where there are other ways you can gain financial security. Do what's right for you and your family. If the time is right and you feel you are willing and able to jump back into working, then go for it... and don't let anything hold you back.

Online Degrees - The Perfect E-Learning Solution For Working and Single Moms

With the advent of the Internet, its easier than ever to aspire to higher education. And this is particularly true for working or single mothers. For women who fall into these categories, time is an important factor, not to mention money. Online education is more cost effective, and it cuts down on time spent attending classes at a traditional university. In effect, it makes things a lot easier for moms who have little time to spare.

If you're a single mom or a working mom for that matter, keep in mind that its never too late to complete the education that you have always dreamed of. By continuing your higher education with an online degree, you might greatly improve your future as well as the future of your children.

Working single moms have more opportunities for e-learning so they can change their careers or advance in their current jobs. Accredited programs on the Internet can offer the courses that are right for you. Now, there are even Associate Degree programs online as well as scholarships to fund your studies if you're a single mom returning to finish your degree online.

Additionally, employers may also be willing to fund online degrees for working moms and single mothers. Employers might be especially interested in having you finish your degree, if it means benefitting the industry that you're working in.

Women who have little time to join a regular university because of their work or family obligations, online schools are an unique opportunity to take advantage of. Online learning also mean that you have plenty of time available to take care of existing responsibilities. A clear advantage is that you're able to work at your own pace, during day time or at night, and in the convenience of your home.

Rani Kota of Bethesda, Maryland says that she decided to go with online courses since it allows her to spend quality time with her family and still keep her full-time job as these were her highest priorities. She adds, that anyone can do it, with the availability of new technology.

In the case of working mothers, solid coursework along with access to support is essential to success in e-learning. The online environment provides easy access to higher education to women who are single or working.

Its also great for women because it allows women to advance in a male-dominated job environment. More education usually means a higher paying job, and a higher position, both of which are great for working or single moms.

Even the top universities are offering online programs via distance learning and accredited online degrees are easily available. Sometimes, you need a big break to get ahead in your career or to start a new one if you're a single mom or a working mother. And, an online degree gives you the perfect impetus to put you back in the workforce and move ahead.

10 Great Careers For Stay-at-Home Moms

Men, unlike women, do not have to go through the dilemma of whether to stay at home with the kids or just continue with their careers. Every mother, on the other hand, would have to deal with this issue at one point in her life. Well, distressed mom, worry no more because you don't have to choose from your career or being an ever-present mother to your kids anymore.

Here are ten great careers that many moms could choose to undertake:

1. Freelance Writing. You would be surprised at how many jobs you can have under this category. You can be an academic writer, an editor, a novelist, a copywriter, a blogger, a ghost writer--name it and the online world would be able to cough it up for you. What you would need to set up: your place of solitude and a computer (with a reliable Internet connection). Also, you've got to establish, from the very beginning, what type of writing you would like to engage into.

2. Transcription. Many transcription companies now allow their employees to do their jobs at home. There are many types of transcription jobs--legal, medical, general, etc. All you would need is great hearing, a foot pedal, computer and excellent typing skills.

3. Online tutorials. If you love teaching, then this is the perfect home-based job for you. First, you need to have a clientele (there are a lot of them online or you could get them through referrals). Also, there are companies who hire tutors and who allow them to do their tutorials at home. And since this is another online job, you would need a computer, a webcam, and a headset (you could replace this with a PC microphone and a pair of speakers).
4. Selling baked goodies, pasta, etc. If you are the type who loves to cook, then there is also a career that would be perfect for you. Why don't you consider baking your favorite cookies or even cakes, and start selling them? First, sell them to people that you know (friends, relatives or neighbors) and once these people give you referrals, you could start selling to them, too. Don't expect that it would be a grand business (unless you're willing to go big time and put in a hefty capital, hire some employees, and all that). This is also applicable to businesses such as sewing, knitting, candle-making, jewelry, preserved food, etc.). Putting up a business at home could have its down side, too, but still, you do get to spend extra hours with your family.

5. Desktop Publishing. DTP is a combination of WYSIWYG software for page layout and a personal computer. This is used in creating documents for publication (page layouts with photos, graphics, text, and other visuals with the use of certain computer software such as Scribus, Apple Pages, Microsoft Publisher, Adobe, or QuarkXPress.

For stay-at-home moms with limited capitals, you can use an ordinary printer (yeah, that's the small one) and start a business like this. If you want to go on a larger scale, you can hire a vendor to do all the printing jobs.

6. Virtual Assistant Jobs. A VA is a freelance contractor who provides technical, administrative, even creative assistance to her clients. The regular clients include realtors or lawyers. These assistants work at home in their virtual offices. For a VA, the needed tools include: a computer with a dependable Internet connection, fax machine, and a phone.

7. Typing jobs. Unlike transcription jobs where you would need to specialize in medical or legal terms, doing an online data entry job is as easy as 1-2-3. All you would need are excellent typing skills and you're good to go (as you would only need to fill out online survey forms). Most of the companies that offer data entry positions ask for an initial payment of some sort, though. Just be careful in choosing which ones are for real.

8. Internet Marketing. This is also referred to as Internet advertising, e-Marketing, or online marketing. This simply means you sell your products or services online. It is not enough that you have your own computer, you must also possess impeccable marketing skills to be able to survive on this type of career.

9. Affiliate Marketing. Somehow, this is related to Internet marketing except that this one involves some networking as the business gives rewards to affiliates for every visitor or client that they gain.

10. Babysitting. You could have a few, extra money when you opt to take care of your children along with other kids (with parents who are willing to pay up!). And if you love kids, this is just like a walk in the park.

These are just ten out of the hundreds of possible careers that homemakers could opt for. If you want to find out about other choices, they're just a click of a mouse away!

Seven Powerful Ideas For Jobs For Busy Moms

Here are seven exceptional ideas you can put into practice right away. The choices and opportunities for working from home have expanded into an avalanche of potential. Yet when you are a busy mom, with responsibilities that extend into the stratosphere, it can be a challenge to come up with a specific idea you can consciously cause to occur.

Work from Home Strategy No. 1: Brainstorm your talents. Brainstorm your capabilities. Can you manage events? Can you write blogs? Can you sell real estate or tiny gadgets? The first work from home strategy is to get big with your choices. Ideally you will STOP reading this article, go over to your computer, PDA or a pad of paper and just line up word after word of what you like to do.

Work from Home Strategy No. 2: Now think again about your skills. What aren't you seeing? What is your blind spot? Ask your friends "What am I really good at?" Consider what you like to do in your family gatherings. What role do you usually play? Some of my friends are so organized. They can execute an unexpected indoor birthday party for 27 at the drop of a hat, then say "I just don't have any skills." Well, that takes skill. See yourself in new ways.

Work from Home Strategy No. 3: Facebook.

Work from Home Strategy No. 3A: I guess perhaps you might want more detail. Facebook is emerging as a raging river with last word over 600 million people tapping into it every day. How many opportunities are going to blossom from that madness? I can't begin to count. Learn how to make a Facebook Page and then sell that service to others. Sell a product with a Facebook Page. Discover the key to a successful Facebook ad. You're going to hear maybe thousands of careers get created from Facebook.

Work from Home Strategy No. 4: Navigate Facebook with grace. Get what Facebook does and figure out how any of your efforts can be nourished with that platform. Just become savvy with it. I'm not saying I'm there yet, but the last tool I learned was how to make an opt-in box and post it on a Fan Page. If you're not clear what an opt-in box is, that's OK, we can talk about that in another article. The key is to get your arms wrapped around the huge momentum of Facebook and embrace it verses resisting it.

Work from Home Strategy No. 5: Sales positions will always be good work from home positions, except that exceptional sales results occasionally involve face-to-face conversations. If you have any leanings towards sales, go for it and get training and really get into it. If you can sell hockey mom products, you can make enough money at least to play for all of the kids skates, for instance. If you can sell any one thing well, you can tap all of the internet traffic and "divert and convert."

Work from Home Strategy No. 6: Become an expert at something. Become known as the go-to person on that topic. You can make a blog for free on your topic and place ads on that page. You can attract followers who want to know about your topic, from YOU, and then nourish them with opportunities that feed that passion (my blog Jobs for Busy Moms does just that, it is a lot of fun).

Work from Home Strategy No. 7: Let go of all of your limiting beliefs. The world has changed in the last six months beyond belief. Needless to say if you've been an at home mom for a few years, you won't even recognize the world of work at home opportunities. There are millions and millions of opportunities. So, allow yourself to find some great ones. Get creative! Have fun!
