Creating a Successful Teacher Resume

It's arguably the most important job in the world, but just because you're a passionate, dedicated teacher doesn't mean that you can send in any old resume. You must be able to translate your skills, experiences, and credentials into a document that makes potential employers say, "I want to meet his person!" In fact, you're "teaching" employers about you.

Structuring for Success

These features must be included on your resume. Put them in the order below to maximize readability.

· Identifying information. Like other resumes, you must include your full name, address, phone number, and email address at the top of your resume. Make sure it's big enough to read easily.

· Objective. This is especially important when applying at large school districts because they receive hundreds of resumes and need to quickly identify which pile your resume should be added to. Many teachers-especially at the elementary level-are certified for a broad range of ages and subjects. If employers can't decide whether you want to teach sixth grade social studies or kindergarten, she may toss your resume and move on the next, clearer resume. Be precise: "Seeking a sixth grade language arts teaching position."

· Teaching experience. Start with your current or most recent teaching experience and work your way back chronologically. If you're a new teacher, your student teaching experience-as well as any substitute teaching experience-will make up this section.

· Education. Again, list this in reverse chronological order, and make sure to include any continuing education or professional development you've participated in. If you're a new teacher, put this section above teaching experience.

· Certifications. You can't teach if you aren't certified, and employing someone who isn't qualified is every administrator's worst nightmare. Make it easy for them by putting your certifications and endorsements front and center. If it's in the works, put the anticipated date of your endorsement.

· Career-related awards. If you've been honored with a Golden Apple teaching award or some other education-centered award during your career, make sure you include it. Outside validation goes a long way with school districts.

· Associations and memberships. List the professional organizations to which you belong. For new teachers especially, these associations demonstrate your seriousness about your career.

The following sections are potential add-ins, depending on your situation.

· Profile. If you're an established teacher, a profile section can help define who you are. Think about your qualities, experience, and skills. Example: "A very creative high school history teacher with 10 years of experience, I'm dedicated to eliciting high levels of classroom performance from every student.

· Other work experience. This is only for new teachers or those with a large gap between teaching jobs. Try to play up the "educational" aspects of any job you list. For instance, if you were a docent at a local museum, emphasize how you taught large groups of people about ancient Egypt on a daily basis.

· College honors. Again, this is primarily for new teachers, though if you were a Rhodes Scholar, you're never too far removed from college to include that tidbit!

· Special skills. Like every other employer today, schools are looking to maximize the usefulness of their teachers. If you're fluent in a foreign language, for example, a small district with no current foreign language offerings may give your resume more weight because they can use that skill, as well as your primary teaching area.

Other Tips:

· Incorporate buzz words. If possible-and if it's true, of course-demonstrate your knowledge of and experience with some of the most popular trends in teaching. Things such as "team teaching" (or learning), "hands-on learning," "whole language," and "inclusion" are going to set off happy bells for potential employers.

· Highlight your innovative spirit. Whatever your teaching experience-even if only as a student teacher-you've had to get creative in the classroom. Include a couple of examples of innovative techniques you've developed that are transferable to a new position.

· Emphasize your willingness to be a team player. Teaching is often collaborative, so if you're able to demonstrate how you've contributed your time and skills for the overall benefit of a school-not just your own students-your resume will outshine most others.

Part Time Jobs - Save Time and Earn Money Extra

First things first, why are you looking to take up a part time job? Is it because you want to break away from the routine and regularity that an every day job brings? Is it because you already have a job and are looking to earn extra money for whatever reason? Is it to constructively use your spare time? Is it because you are studying and want to earn your own cash on the side, or help your parents out with the finances for your family?

Generally speaking part time jobs are a type of employment where you only end up working for a small part of the day or as much/ little as you can afford to work around your existing schedule. Timings are not fixed in every case, and for the most part you get to choose whether you want to work nights, between 12 and 3 in the afternoon or whatever timing suits your convenience. Part time jobs almost always pay by the hour (per word or article if you're a writer, per page if you're doing a data online entry job, or in a sales and marketing job you could be paid a certain percentage/ commission of the income you generate, etc)
Surveys have shown that the people working most on part time jobs are none other than the housewives and homemakers. Taking the responsibility to keep themselves productive while managing life at home, these woman have been able to work at professional jobs - albeit from home - and hence, they can earn their families a steady stream of income. Tough or not, these women seem to be able to balance work and home life well.

There is of course the age factor with part time work. Senior citizens retire, and in an attempt to keep themselves and their minds busy, they take up a part time job. It is especially beneficial to the company in this case, as the senior person has years of experience that they bring with them to the job. It doesn't necessarily pay as highly as a full time job, but it is a dignified way of supporting themselves and staying busy.
You can find ads for available part time jobs online, in local classifieds and other job advertisement areas. Sometimes there will even be posting in local shops and supermarkets.
Perhaps one of the best benefits of taking up a part time job is that you can take several part time jobs simultaneously, or even alongside a regular full time one and thereby earn yourself or your family some extra cash.

This trend is no longer only unique to western countries. Indian citizens are not far behind in finding or posting part time jobs. Online data entry jobs are great for part time solutions. There is no end to the part time job vacancies in India. From IT jobs, to main frame jobs, to telecom jobs, to just about anything, you can find a part time job in just about every sector.

Job Search - Skip the Headache and Reduce Job Search Stress

Searching for your ideal job takes time and effort, as well as knowledge. To reduce the headaches associated with the job search, take a look at these suggestions before you begin to start looking for your next job:

1. Have an idea of what kind of job you are seeking. Signing up willy-nilly for job fairs that specialize in positions that are outside your area of competence is a time-waster.

Be aware of your personal interests, the hours you want to work and your willingness (or lack thereof) to relocate. Make sure that you do not waste time on pursuing a job on the late shift or in another state if that would not fit in with your personal life.

2. Make sure that you have copies (hard and soft) of your resume, clips, samples, portfolio, college transcripts and relevant certifications so you will be able to include them when required.

3. Be aware of where to look for job openings. There are several options, depending on your situation. Here are a few of them:

The Internet - Searching online for job openings is not only a time saver, compared to knocking on doors, it is also less expensive than many of the other available options. You do not need to buy newspapers or magazines to browse through their "help wanted" ads and you do not need to burn any gas in travel. The internet also allows you to cast a wide net (so to speak), searching for jobs all over the country or even in other countries.

Newspapers - Traditionally one of the most widely used sources for job openings, newspapers post ads for jobs that are generally close-by, within easy commuting distance for the paper's readers.

Career/Job Centers - In general, such centers are aimed at young people, especially teenagers seeking their first jobs. Most vacancies at job centers are best suited for those under 18 and are rarely aimed at 20-something college graduates. The vacancies are updated on a regular basis, so if a job center has the kind of work you are looking for, it is a good idea to visit often.

Magazines and Periodicals - Trade publications for a given industry are a good place to look for jobs, as companies are interested in hiring the sort of person who keeps up with their field by reading such publications.

Offices - Most offices have a bulletin board somewhere with job vacancies posted on it. And once you are there, if you have your resume and other documents handy, you can proceed directly to the part of the office where applications are accepted and processed.

Finding Jobs in Ireland During the Recession

Job Prospects in Ireland
Like many other countries in the European Union, Ireland is currently going through a severe economic recession. Conservative figures put the employment rate at between 12%-13%, almost double that of 12 months ago. Construction industry Jobs are down almost 40% and many other sectors are not far behind. Many people would automatically assume that there are no Jobs in Dublin or Ireland, given the fact that there are more people leaving the country than arriving. It is true there are far fewer jobs in Ireland during the present time, but it is still a great country to live in. Ireland is a beautiful place with an exceptional education system, a massive rural and community life and plenty to see and do. It is also the chosen location for some of the largest multinationals in Europe including Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Intel.

The National Job Agency Fas
If you have decided to live in Ireland or you are currently unemployed in Ireland, then your first stop off will be FAS. FAS is a government agency set up to help the unemployed find work and gain training to improve their future job prospects. They have offices in almost every major town, where you can go to search for recent employment vacancies. They also have a massive variety of training courses for almost every career path there is. More importantly, they are there to give you advice and suggestions for almost any problem you may come up against when searching for a Job.

Local Newspapers
Secondly, if you are based in Dublin your must search through the classified section of the Evening Herald, where you will find a selection of recent Job Vacancies to suit any career. Cork City also has the Evening Echo, a daily tabloid with a variety of job listings. Both these newspapers usually contain hundreds of job vacancies from all over Ireland.

The Old Fashioned Walk In
In Ireland, especially in the service industry, it is quite acceptable to make a personal call into a Hotel or Restaurant in order to find a Job. This gives you a good chance of meeting the owner or manager. Irish people like to know how they are hiring, they like to get a feel for the person rather than a quick look at a CV. Remember, Ireland went into recession fast and it can come out of it pretty quickly.

Job Search Online Can be a Quick and Easy Experience

Whether you love them or hate them, at some point in our lives, all of us have to go through the dreaded job search. Have you noticed how difficult it becomes finding work as you get older too? I found myself unemployed at 39 and thought I'd walk into another job within a couple of weeks. Well, there were plenty of vacancies around but despite my carefully prepared resume and well written cover letter, I got but 1 reply to 25 applications over a 3 month period and that was just a simple thanks but no thanks.

Of course, this was a good few years ago now and the medium for finding new work was via the employment agencies, the local rags, or word by mouth. It's so much different these days with the opportunities unveiled with that information super highway. I could have done with a bit of electronic assistance back when I was out of work. It's so much faster than the postal service and much easier to research and follow up too.

Despite this, a job search is still seen as a necessary evil to many folks. A painful and humiliating process that makes them despise themselves with each rejection or ignored application. There are some people, however, that love a good job search. Some employment seekers just can't resist bouncing in and out of different jobs and positions, as they continue setting themselves up for new challenges and or promotions. It is possible to take the sting, the monotony, and the fear out of a job search. Here are a few suggestions on turning this loathing task into one you love.

Okay, so just how do we turn a job search into a less disturbing or intimidating prospect. Well, provided you follow a few basic instructions and guidelines, you can make your job search one heck of a lot more exciting and interesting.

The first big tip of a successful job search is to network. It might be the buzz word of the day, but networking should not be underestimated as a valuable string to your job search bow. You need to get to know as many people in the industry you are targeting as well in allied industries. This way, you will be more likely to hear about your dream job much sooner than anyone else does.

It's a fact that many jobs advertised in publications and on company notice board are taken even before the positions even go puublic. Statistically, it's something like 80%. The reason they are still advertised is a legal one. By law, a new job vacancy should be advertised fairly and for duration before it is filled. Even though a company will know who's filling the position before hand, they still have to go through this procedure to keep the workers rights brigades off of their backs.

The great thing about networking is that it's simple. You just need to join up with a number of clubs and associations that are related to the industry in question. As an example, if say advertising is where you want to be, find out more about the eligibility requirements of the Ad Club in your region. If there are frequent informal meeting of the ad crowd in certain restaurants/pubs in your locality, try to get invited and if you can't, invite yourself somehow. You can also attend seminars and conferences of interest to people in your targeted profession and this way, you could make your job search not just interesting, but fulfilling as well. I'm assuming you're looking for a job that you have a genuine interest in and not just a job for the sake of making a few bob of course.

But there's not just networking. If networking doesn't work for you, you can rely on the proficiency of good consultancy firm to help you land your dream position. Consultants can really be an essential element of any good job search as they work closely with the various industries.

A final tip is to comb online world of classifieds for temporary jobs vacancies. Most companies start off by offering smaller, part-time gigs, and short-term contracts, but if you get in and prove yourself as an asset, you will often be offered a full time post after a period of time.

Whichever method you go for, remember that a job search is only as interesting as you make it. If you convince yourself it's going to be nothing but stress and strife from the outset, then that's what you'll get. Concentrate your time and effort into a smart job search as opposed to a conventional job search and you will surely see the difference.

Cleaning Job Vacancies

If you are searching for cleaning jobs then you have come to the right place. The information in this article has been put together to give you an understanding of the range of positions that fall into this category. There are actually many types of cleaning jobs. To find the latest openings the best approach would be to look online or sign up with an agency. It should not take you long to find a large number of positions you can apply to.

The following options are the most well known cleaning jobs that need to be filled on a regular basis. Before you apply to any position you should be clear on whether it is full time or part time position that you are interested in.

Falling under the category of full time cleaning jobs, the role of a general maintenance technician in a company or business would involve ensuring that sanitation is thorough at all times. This may include cleaning washrooms, floors, windows, and emptying any trash or rubbish. Occasionally an individual with this role would also be responsible for basic repairs such as to ensure bathroom fittings are fixed when broken.

A housekeeping job would primarily involve being accountable for certain daily chores alongside sanitation based activities. For example a housekeeper in an office would be responsible for cleaning the complete work-space on a daily basis. If the role is for a private home then the actual activities would be similar, though instead of cleaning office dirt, a kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms would be where most of the tasks lie.

There are companies that specialize in offering cleaning services. The duties may involve a wide range of sanitation based work. The great aspect of being employed by a cleaning firm is that the work can be varied and also you can enjoy being alongside other like-minded people.

Today there is a high demand for people who have some experience of working in the cleaning industry. Though not thought of as a prestige position, most cleaning work offers wages higher than the national minimum wage. They are a satisfying career for individuals who love to be tidy and encourage cleanliness in others.

When it comes to applying for any position make sure you tailor your resume to each and every opening. It would be a mistake to use the same generic cover letter and CV for each position that is applied to.

Fill That Information Technology Job Vacancy

Recession or no recession, fresh reports suggest that now is a far better time than you may have thought for the information technology job market. According to one survey, permanent private sector jobs in IT across all sectors are growing at the fastest rate since 2007. Salaries are at their highest levels for more than 18 months, signalling a new upsurge in employer confidence.

In fact, with 110,000 people needed to fill jobs in Britain's technology sector each year, renewed efforts are now being made to attract young people into the industry.

Despite reports of overseas outsourcing and potential public sector cuts over the next 12 months, and a possible dip in the number of temporary posts, there are still plenty of opportunities for anyone looking for a job in IT, and strong technical skills will always be highly sought after.

If you're an employer and have an information technology job to fill, there are many benefits to using a specialist IT recruitment agency. One of the biggest advantages is the hours an agency can save an organisation's managers or human resources team. HR staff already have many conflicting demands on their time, and may not have specialist IT knowledge.

In particular, if you're a small business looking for someone to fill an IT role, you're probably already stretched, and your time will be doubly precious. There may simply not be enough hours in the day to write and design job adverts or sift through countless CVs. Equally, you may not happen to have the extensive interviewing skills which someone working for a recruitment agency will have.

IT job agencies are also equipped with all the right technical skills to identify the best candidate for an information technology job. Indeed, agency staff may well have previously worked in the industry themselves.

Agencies are aware of all the latest industry trends, and know exactly what to look for so that selection is as accurate as possible. If you just place adverts yourself, the adverts can be hit and miss.

Rather than going through a jobs board, specialist agencies will go directly to the people they know, making the whole process much quicker and more reliable. By the time you meet candidates, the agency will already have interviewed them personally.

Like any business, an IT recruitment service needs to charge for what it does. But consider the potential cost to your organisation of hiring someone who simply isn't up to the job. It can be a disastrous waste of time and money. Most agencies only seek payment once someone is in post for a few months and doing well.

A good recruitment agency will be with a client every step of the way, from drafting the advertising to advising unsuccessful applicants. With some reports suggesting it can take 12 hours of effort just to get someone into your office for an interview, you can see why employers turn to recruitment agencies.

Job Vacancies - Attracting The Perfect Candidate

An enormous pile of CVs to rifle through after a huge response to your job advertisement is all well and good, but how can you be sure that the owners of these CVs will actually have the skills required to do the job? How do you optimise the response to your advertisement so that you attract the perfect candidate?

Firstly, you must know exactly what the job entails. Knowing the title is not enough. If you want to attract the right candidate you have to produce a clear job description, detailing the position of the role within the company and expectations of the successful applicant.

Now ask yourself what your ideal candidate would be like. A person specification focuses on the skills, experience and qualifications that are needed for an individual to be successful. Consider what skills you are looking for in a candidate - would high academic grades be a good indicator of their suitability for the role or are soft skills more important?

When it comes to applicants' experience, think about specific areas rather than the number of years they have acquired, as this will ensure that you don't unintentionally eliminate those who have gained substantial experience in a shorter period of time than usual. A good indication of a candidate's social skills and attitudes towards others is what their interests and achievements outside of work are, so asking for these details can also be useful.

Both the job description and person specification are of considerable value when using recruitment agencies, as the more information you are able to provide them with, the more successful they will be in putting forward suitable candidates for consideration. You can maximise the effectiveness of your agency by providing comprehensive job and person specifications so they fully understand your requirements.

Think about the level of response you would like to receive from your job advert. For junior or graduate positions it might be better to have a greater choice of candidates, whereas for senior and specialist positions it is often more beneficial to receive half a dozen excellent applications rather than hundreds of standard ones, which is where a recruitment agency can prove to be an essential resource.

After assessing the competition and getting an idea of what other positions you are contending with, you can word your job description or advertisement so that it stands out. Words such as 'leading,' 'global,' and 'unrivalled' will work well in giving your company greater appeal than others.

Finally, before you place the advert or contact your recruitment agency, imagine that you are the applicant and ask yourself whether or not the job is appealing. 'Would I apply for this job if it were in my specialist area?' Making sure you focus on the benefits for the candidate should help to attract the right people.

Angelina Jolie's Numerology; can she Juggle all her Careers?

With her current attachment with Brad Pitt, her work for the United Nations, and beautiful new daughter Shiloh to care for, Angelina Jolie seems to have her plate full for the next few months. With a huge following as an actress and a humanitarian, and so many demands on her time, what's in store for People Magazine's most beautiful woman in the next few years?

As a Numerologist, if I want to see what is in someone's future there are (3) main calculations which I look at: their Life Cycles, their Letters of Transit and their Personal Year. These values give me a number of clues about what's upcoming for a person, in a general way. Looking at these shows that the actress may have some big changes on the way.

Her Life Cycle

Angelina Jolie's first life cycle just ended with her 31st birthday in June 2006. This cycle featured an effort to achieve "balance" between her domestic life and her careers. She was often asked for advice and given many opportunities to be creative. The challenge of this cycle was to develop an awareness of the needs of other people. Certainly, her work for the United nations and in developing countries shows that she mastered this challenge.

Her birthday last June was the first major turning point in her Life as dictated by Numerology. It revealed a new direction for her. She has become focused on her personal needs at this time. She is also experiencing an opportunity to be more independent in some manner.

I would say that the birth of her new daughter, and her joining with Brad Pitt represent this turning point in her life.

Her second life cycle began with this turning point, and will run through June 2033. It will demand a good deal of hard work from her. Mundane matters will require a lot of her attention. She will receive many opportunities to build a strong foundation for success in both her family life, and her work. This period will be more serious and hectic than her first life cycle, if that's possible.

Amazingly, there is no single life challenge to be overcome in this cycle; instead she must overcome the various changes and conflicting events which will arise from one day to the next. Her challenge is dealing with her very hectic life.

Her Transit Letters

Transit letters are calculated from a person's full birth name and are the most detailed predictor of events unique to an individual. Angelina Jolie's transit letters have been quite stable through the last few years.

With her recent birthday, her transit letter of 'O' which had been in force for six years since June 2000 came to an end. This transit letter marked a time of calm and serenity in her life. She accepted responsibilities in her home life with the adoption of her children, and experienced improved finances during this time. The success of the 'Tomb Rader' movies, and 'Mr and Mrs. Smith' certainly made her one of Hollywood's best paid female stars.

With her last birthday, she gained an 'L' as a Transit letter. The next three years will be filled with socializing and making new friends. Her creativity will be very strong during this period, but she may waste many opportunities due to partying and having fun. This is not necessarily a bad thing for someone with as much on her plate as she has.

Her transit letter on 'N' has been in force for a while and will stay in her life until June 2009. She will experience many changes, possibly some travel, and tasks which will call on her to be adaptable. She will experience some ups and downs in her finances during this time, probably due to changes in her work schedule.

Her transit letter of 'H' has also been in force for many years, and will stay in her reading through 2009. This letter calls for professional growth and financial success during the years it holds sway. It also supports her becoming more independent in her life. But a bit of warning here, she needs to let things happen at their own pace. Trying to force the issue, particularly in her humanitarian causes will bring her frustration and delays.

Her Personal Year

2006 is a personal year (9) for Angelina Jolie. This is a time for winding up old task and commitments, and preparation for new opportunities in the following (1) personal year. 2007 is the following (1) personal year, a time of starting new task, new opportunities, and new ventures. This fits right in with her starting a new Life cycle this year.

Summation

In summation, I believe that the callings of family life and her humanitarian interest are going to demand more of Angelina's time and attention in the coming years. I believe she will still take some acting roles, but they will be less strenuous and time consuming than her work in the past. Perhaps she will do animation voice work, television guest appearances, or cameo roles in other peoples pictures in order to cut back on her time commitments. I look for her attachment with Brad Pitt to deepen, and for her family to continue to grow and prosper.

Beyonce Giselle Knowles was born September 4th, 1981 in Houston, Texas to Matthew and Tina Knowles as the first born of two girls. Before she reached the age of seven she was singing and showing signs of great talent. When she was seven, she was already attending dance school and was a soloist in the church choir.

By the time she reached her teen years, any spare time she could find was spent with her childhood pals, LaTayia Roberson, Kelly Rowland and LeToya Luckett, performing at local functions. The girls, then known as "Girl's Tyme" tried their luck at Star Search but did not make the cut. Beyonce's Dad gave up his good paying job in order to devote his time promoting the band. To this day Matthew Knowles manages his daughter's career.

After trying a few different names, the girls settled on Destiny's Child. The musical debut for the group was the song "Killing Time", which appeared on the soundtrack for the "Men in Black" movie, released in 1997. A year later, they had number one single with the song, "No,No,No, Part 2." The quartet became a trio later on that same year with the departure of LeToya and LaTayia, who decided to pursue individual careers. Destiny's Child continued onwards and became one of the top R&B/Pop groups in 2000 accumulating four Billboard Hot 100 number one singles and numerous top ten hits, as well as two albums that went to number one.

The group's second album continued with great success with tracks like "Say My Name," "Jumpin' Jumpin,'" and the very successful "Bug A Boo." In the 2001, two Grammy awards were given to "Say My Name". They followed up with a third album, "Survivor," which produced such hits as the title track as well as "Bootylicious". The group decided to disband by 2005 but had at that time proven themselves as one of the top selling female groups in music history.

Beyonce had proven her worth and skills as a songwriter. She won the 2001 Songwriter of the Year, awarded by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Pop Music Awards. This made her the first African-American woman to win the award and only the second woman to win. She also spent a bit of time working on solo projects which at first was not as successful as the projects with the trio, but she was not easily discouraged.

When she finally released her solo debut album, "Dangerously in Love", it went right to the top selling over 300,000 copies in just the first week and went platinum 3 weeks later, in June of 2003. The single from the album,"Crazy in Love" topped the charts and stayed there for over 8 weeks. Later that same year her album and the single topped the charts at the same time which put her on the same level as such musical wonders as The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and Rod Stewart. She was and still is the only female artist to have accomplished this feat. This helped make Beyonce one of the biggest artists in both sales and popularity for 2003.

In 2004 she won five Grammy Awards. On the Destiny's Child album released in 2005, Beyonce released a song called "Check on It," which was used on the soundtrack of "The Pink Panther Movie," released in 2006.

In correspondence with her 25th birthday, she released a second album called "B'day," which sold more than her first solo album, with 541,000 copies sold in the first week after release. The lead single from the album, "Déjà Vu," became a number one hit on the US R&B charts.

Not only has Beyonce had success in music, but also on the movie screen. She may be best known for the character Foxy Cleopatra in the 2002 summer movie, "Austin Powers in Goldmember" along side Michael Caine and Mike Myers. In 2003 she appeared beside Cuba Gooding Jr. in the movie "The Fighting Temptations". In 2006, she got chance to pay homage to Diana Ross in a movie based on a Broadway musical depicting the lives of the Supremes. Beyonce showed off her incredible acting skills, playing the part of Ms. Ross in the Movie titled, "Dreamgirls", which opened with first weekend sales of $8 million and has grossed well over $100 million to date.

Beyonce's talent has shown no end in sight and her fans are looking forward to see what is yet to come.

Applying For a Job? Apply These Tips!

I have been reviewing resumes, responding to email and interviewing employment candidates my entire career and I have compiled a list of do's and don'ts that will most assuredly make a difference when you are applying for your next job.

No typos! Proofread your cover letter and resume well to ensure that there are no typographical or grammatical errors and ask a family member or friend to do so as well. Nothing gets your resume thrown in the trash quicker than errors. Why? If you make errors on these critical documents, an employer wonders what the quality of your work will be like if you were hired.

No employment history gaps! If you took time off to go to school, raise a child or care for an elderly parent, say so. Gaps in employment are huge red flags for employers.

If you are contacted via email to discuss a potential position and/or to set up an interview, proofread your email as well as you proofed your resume and cover letter. This is an excellent chance to make a great impression so also be clear, concise and kind in your prose.

Be timely in your email exchanges. If you only log into email once per day, this is the time to change that practice. While you are in active dialogue with a prospective employer, log in often so you can wow them with your responsiveness.

If you are invited for an interview, even though business casual is the norm these days, here is another chance to make a wonderful impression. You can never be overdressed. A business suit is never a bad idea in this situation. Equally important are your shoes being in good repair and if you are female, your handbag. Bring a notebook and pen to take notes. Not only does it keep your nervous hands busy, but it also shows the prospective employer that you are very interested in what they have to say.

Shake the interviewer's hand and look him or her squarely in the eye. Stand up straight and smile. Never sit at the head of the table which is a position of authority.

Ask questions. Come up with questions in advance so you don't feel put on the spot. Asking questions again shows interest, that you are thoughtful and that you want to make a well-informed decision should you be offered the position.

Be enthusiastic and wear a smile. Don't tell the interviewer that you are nervous. They already know that. Don't talk too much, but don't be shy either. A good back and forth dialogue is comfortable for everyone.

After the interview, shake the interviewer's hand, thank them for their time and then send a thank you email or even more impressive is a hand-written thank you note. Obtain the business card(s) of the individual(s) you interviewed with before departing if possible.

Follow these tips and you will definitely wow your future employer and when you actually land and start the job, keep all of these tips in mind as they will assure you a successful career!

Top Tips For Aspiring Models

1. Be on time, if you can't there on time let the Photographer know otherwise you will get a reputation for being late or not turning up. This could hurt your future assignments as no one will book an unreliable model! Not unless they get really desperate.

2. Always take a chaperone or at the very least let someone know where you are and what time you should be finished. Best not to take your girl / boy friend, husband / wife, they sometimes get in the way and could try to intimidate the photographer to do things differently, they could also be shocked at what the photographer is asking you to do.

3. Go prepared change of clothes that fit don't assume the photographer will have everything for the shoot.

4. Check out the photographer ask other models he or she has used, ask for references or jobs the photographer has had.

5. Get a phone number and better still get an address. If the photographer will not give either then it's up to you to decide to continue or not.

6. Make sure you understand what is required i.e. what type of shoot you are doing, never feel because you are doing time for prints shoot or even a paid shoot that you have to do what the photographer says. Example if you thought you were doing a fashion shoot and then the photographer decides he now wants to do nude, topless etc..but you did not agree to this you are within your rights and for your own safety to decline.

7. Make up take your own, although there may be a make-up artist it's best to take your own just in case.

8. Take some cash with you for taxis or buses. This in case the photographer can't provide the transport, keep receipts as these may be needed later to claim back if it was an all expense shoot.

9. Make sure you know if traveling expenses are being paid. This is why you might need the cash. Get it in writing at the time of you being booked.

10. Remember never do anything you could be ashamed of later in life, it could affect your career prospects later on in your modeling career. Remember too your family is important don't do anything that could cause embarrassment to them. You want to be proud of yourself could you show your parents the photos that have been taken.

11. Remember also that modeling is a business and that you can negotiate about things like pay, traveling expenses, hotels etc... It's OK to turn down jobs, never be rude to prospective clients as they won't try to book you again, latter on in your career they could be the one who has you dream job up for grabs, they too have memories of how you last behaved if you where rude or treated them with disrespect you'll most probably miss out on that dream job which could have made you a star.
