Indoor Team Building Exercises and Workplace Culture

There are many reasons that the workplace culture may become disrupted or toxic. In a volatile economy many people are touched in a personal way by the fluctuating economy. Even when they are in secure jobs, the uncertainty of the economy often has a negative influence on a workforce. The issues become magnified when an organization must make adjustments in their infrastructure to accommodate the industry and have been forced to downsize in order to maintain their standing in the market.

Team building can take place in both formal settings or informal group setting within the workplace. When the exercises are in the form of games in which all employees in an organization participate, the location can play a pivotal role in the effectiveness of the exercises. Through creative strategic planning and preparation, it is possible for an organization to begin the necessary steps to develop a more healthy workplace culture in a non-threatening and positive environment.

Productivity is directly affected by the culture in a workplace. When the culture has no longer aligns with the needs of the organization, the automatic response is to try to change the actions or attitudes of individuals who have been identified as change agents. However, in most cases, each individual in an organization plays a role in defining the culture. To effectively change this environment, an organization must provide a positive, alternative culture that is easily conformed to and creates cohesion throughout all levels of the organization.

The methods used historically to change habits and influence attitudes has become less effective as more employees have become entrenched in a survival mentality. This mentality often is not conducive to productivity or excellence in the workplace.

For many individuals this workplace environment causes stress, anxiety, and lower productivity than occurs in a healthy environment. Therefore, it is important to identify the need to change the culture and make proactive plans to implement new change management strategies before the problem results in a decrease in profitability.

When working with a professional, the weaknesses, strengths, and gaps in the workplace culture will be discussed and identified. The indoor team building exercises that are planned will focus on the specific needs of the organization and stakeholders that will be able to generate the most positive changes in the organization and bring the entire group into alignment with the goals and objectives of the organization.

The planning process for the indoor team building exercises will focus on both the need of the organization to increase productivity and the needs of the individuals who make up the organization and will be critical in creating a successful, positive, profitable workplace culture. Through a three step process of planning, preparation, and execution that has been strategically set into place, an organization will begin to see the results they want within a short time.
