Three Lies That Restrict Your Career Freedom

The truth is that you'd rather enjoy the freedom, prosperity and fulfillment of self-employment. Who wouldn't? Yet you will not make your move if you keep telling these lies to yourself.

Read these lies and then instead ask if you are willing to begin telling the raw truth to yourself about your self-employment prospects.

Lie #1. I can't choose just one idea.

People who say they have too many ideas and interests end up using this as an excuse to never take action. We all have multiple interests. Your multiple interests are not what make you special.

Having many ideas or too many ideas. Is it really a problem? It's only a problem if you hide behind the multiple ideas and use it as an excuse to feed your resistance.

What makes you special is your unique core makeup combined with your distinct life experience. This combination is right now dictating your one true calling. When you build a business around that one true calling you will succeed.

Among your many ideas one is close to your calling. But until you choose one horse and ride it no further wisdom will appear. It's wise to ride one horse of an idea until it reaches a point of stability.

At that point of stable flow and profitability you'll see the next best idea and the next.

The corridor theory will save you. But you can't see your best opportunity until you get off you ass and walk down the hall.

Lie #2. I don't have what it takes.

Really how do you know? Where's your proof? Before you answer, know this; valid proof only appears on the other side of action. Just thinking about anything and coming up short is not proof.

Who you are is not stopping you; it's your doubt of you that's stopping you.

Don't doubt your capacity. Imagine how your life might have turned out differently if you had never doubted yourself. You are unique and you came here equipped to do something special. There is no other explanation that serves both you and humanity.

When you doubt yourself you stay stuck in the no win regions of your mind. You keep thinking and looking for evidence that you're right. Your life becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy of doom and gloom.

Success is never a question of capacity but often a question of willingness. Be willing to take the next obvious step and then the next and your doubt will fade.

Lie #3. I don't want to make the wrong choice.

Really? What's so bad about making the wrong choice? Has that ever killed you? I'm betting that choosing wrong has been among your best moves in the wisdom of hindsight.

If you choose and take action some good will come. You really can't miss by all that much. Every experience presents itself for you to choose an action that either takes you closer to or further away from your calling.

The only possible wrong choice is standing pat and not choosing.

You can't get this wrong. Action clarifies.

If you feel ready to quit telling these lies or others to yourself hire a career coach who will encourage you while holding you accountable.

You can feel really confident about doing your own thing. You do have what it takes and you don't have to wait for any condition to be right to make your move.
